It’s free, readily available and requires little to no will power to incorporate it into your daily routine. Here are just some of the ways drinking water can help you lose excess weight.

    1. Water Improves Energy Levels

      Increasing your water intake helps to provide hydration to the brain. Drinking water helps you think, focus and be more alert, enabling you to make better lifestyle choices and stick to your weight loss plan.

    2. Water Suppresses Your Appetite

      Water can act as a natural appetite suppressant. Drinking a glass of water before eating a meal is a natural way of making you feel fuller sooner without adding extra calories.

    3. Water Boosts Metabolism

      Water helps boost your metabolism. While our bodies rely on the liver to metabolise fats cells, our kidneys rely on water to filter waste products from our body. If the kidneys are not receiving enough water, they do not function properly, which results in the liver trying to do the work of the kidney. While the liver is busy filtering, it is less able to metabolise fat. As such a dehydrated person is likely to have a much slower metabolism than a hydrated person.

    4. Water Assists In Detoxification

      Water helps to flush your body of waste products, including toxins, metabolised fat and fatty by-products. The more toxins your body can evacuate, the better it functions.

    5. Water Helps With Digestion

      Water is essential in assisting in the absorption of nutrients from your food. With better absorption of nutrients you will have more energy, making you more inclined to stay active and resist naughty snacks. Water can also help to prevent or relieve constipation.

    6. Water Can Help Prevent Cramps and Sprains

      Keeping the body hydrated helps to keep joints lubricated and muscles stretchy, so you are able to exercise with less chance of injury, cramps or discomfort.

    In addition to being beneficial during weight loss, drinking plenty of water can also help to maintain healthy skin, enhance other bodily functions and improve brain function. Depending on weight, age and health the ideal amount of water an individual should consume may vary. One quick way to tell whether you are drinking enough water is to check that your urine is clear. If you have a health condition or you are unsure of how much water you should be consuming, consult with your local health practitioner.
