Use The Body Mass Index Calculator To Find Your BMI.
The BMI, or body mass index is a useful measurement to help give you an idea of whether your body weight is ideal for your height. Using a Body Mass Index Calculator can help you to understand what is happening to your body. It is useful to know what your body mass index is, because if your weight increases or decreases outside of the healthy ranges for your height, you may be at risk of developing other health issues. A sudden reduction or rise in BMI ranges can also indicate other health problems that may need to be addressed.
Is BMI Useful For Everyone?
The BMI has been designed to be used for people aged 18 and over. It is useful for all adult men and women to know and understand what their Body Mass Index is telling them about their health, however there are variances between gender, age and ethnicity that must also be considered. The Body Mass Index does not apply to pregnant women.
How Do I Calculate My BMI?
To calculate your body mass index, simply take your weight in kilograms and divide it by your height in metres squared. For example if you are 173cm tall and weight 69kg, your calculation would be as follows: BMI = 69/(1.73²). To quickly find out what your BMI is, enter your measurements into our BMI calculator.

What Are Healthy BMI Ranges?
If your BMI is less than 18.5, you are considered underweight.
If you are within an ideal weight range, your BMI will range from 18.5 to 24.9.
If your BMI is between 25 and 29.9, you are considered to be in the overweight category.
If you have a BMI of 30 or greater, you fall into the obese category.
As discussed before, the BMI does have some limitations, as it does not take into account what tissues your weight is made up of.
For example, a body builder may have a higher BMI because of the increased muscle mass contributing to a higher body weight.
Conversely it may also underestimate the amount of body fat in elderly people who have lost muscle mass.
What If My BMI Is Too Low?
If your BMI is less than 18.5 it indicates that you are underweight due to either low body fat levels or low muscle mass. If you are concerned that you are underweight, talk to your local doctor immediately for a health check and further advice.
What If My BMI Is Too High?
If your BMI calculation places you in the ‘Overweight’ or ‘Obese’ category, it is quite likely that other risk factors are present, such as high blood pressure. If you are in either of these categories, consult with your doctor regarding how to achieve a healthier weight range.
Use The BMI As A Guide – Not Gospel!
While using the Body Mass Index Calculator can be a useful indicator of whether or not you are a healthy weight, be aware that BMI has many limitations and does not take a lot of individual situations into consideration. It often provides a very inaccurate measurement of healthy weight for children, pregnant women, elderly people and even athletes. If you are concerned that you are below or above the normal health weight range for your height, talk to your doctor about how you can reach and maintain a healthy weight.
